Not only is coin jewelry collectable, but it’s a fantastic way to display the coins you love, whether you're an avid collector or first-time buyer! Coin jewelry is becoming more and more popular and has lasting style. It is a unique jewelry type as well as a fun and interesting way to display collectable coins. It is believed that the people of the ancient Roman Empire popularized the use of coins in jewelry. Coin pendants were the most widely used style, as they could be worn by both men and women. The admirable soldiers of ancient Egypt were also adorned with coin jewelry. The coins were imprinted with regal portraits, similar to the way United States presidents and other great leaders are depicted on U.S. Mint coinage. Coin jewelry continues to be just as stylish today as it was thousands of years ago. Coin jewelry can be an intriguing way to commemorate a special year or display a coin of particular significance. Many of the ancient coins used in coin jewelry are rare, one-of-a-kind or from a set of extremely low mintage. Most are in exceptionally good condition for the age of the coin. These factors make the coins historically significant and in high demand of collectors. Treat yourself or give as a gift. You'll have a fashionable, collectable piece you can wear for a lifetime! -- ShopNBC.com

14K Alexander the Great
Silver Drachm Coin Square Pendant
This is a Greek silver drachm coin of the Alexander the Great Dynasty. Immediately after the death of Alexander, there was a power void which was temporarily filled by crowning Alexander's half brother, Phillip III and his infant son, Phillip IV as rulers of the Empire. These rather rare Alexander the Great type coins (bearing the name Phillip) were only minted during the short period of six years until Alexander's mother had Phillip III killed. After 317 BC, the older form of the coins were again minted, with the name Alexander on them. These pieces are over 2,300 years old and are actual coins minted in the short period after the death of Alexander the Great and have the unusual legend Phillip. The obverse features the head of Hercules, facing right and clad in lion's skin. The reverse shows Zeus enthroned and facing left, holding an eagle and scepter. The design for this pendant was inspired by an ancient Greek jewelry design. The silver coin (circa 330 BC) measures 17mm in diameter and it is set into a 14K gold square pendant. The polished pendant measures 1-1/8"L x 7/8"W and has a 6x4mm bail. Each piece is handmade and fitted to the coin. It comes beautifully packaged with a 9" x 12" Certificate of Authenticity and photograph in leatherette folder, as well as photographs of ancient Greece. From the Ancient Coin Jewelry Collection. The Ancient Coin Jewelry Collection features authentic ancient coins from the past 2,800 years set in 10, 14 and 18K gold, or sterling silver. The individual designs have used Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Jewish, Spanish, French, Japanese and Chinese coins. The designers' love for the coins has given them a guiding rule for all of the jewelry they create: No coin is ever damaged or changed in the entire manufacturing process. Each new piece of jewelry begins by hand-sculpting a design in wax around a chosen coin. The coin is then removed, and the sculpted design is cast in gold and polished. Then, the coin is reset in the finished piece, just as if it were a precious gemstone. The designers gently borrow their inspiration from ancient times, always recognizing the amazing talents of those who came before them. Designer and guest David Levine says,
The most satisfying part of our work is hearing from the people who have purchased our handmade pieces. We love hearing how much they enjoy owning and wearing a piece of history. They inspire us to again pack our bags and go out to look for the next idea to turn into a wearable treasure.
